Just as readily as they dish out criticisms and put downs, the people of Northern Ireland will give fair credit to anyone in the community who is a genuinely good person. Or at least these quaint expressions were intended as compliments -

"She has a heart of corn."
"He's a civil auld craithur."
"She's a tarbil dacent woman."

ANY COMPLIMENT ABOUT YOUR APPEARANCE FROM AN ULSTERMAN SHOULD BE CAREFULLY EXAMINED FOR TRACES OF SARCASM.
